As an Atheist, there was a piece of this that reminded me of many personal experiences.
I hate it when I say “I have faith in ‘BLANK’” and in return I get a familiar, yet completely unnecessary response. I am told something, usually in a very self-righteous tone of voice, along the lines of “You can’t have faith, you’re an Atheist.” As if the word was owned and trademarked by the Vatican itself. I have faith my car will start, that my friend will come through for me, or that ice cream can put me in a good mood. The primary function of the word doesn’t have anything to do with religion and as such, doesn’t require people’s unsolicited input. Context of the word’s use changes everything!
Do you agree or am I way out in left field here?
